Meet Betsy

I'm passionate about reshaping the conversation around obesity. I want to reclaim weight loss discussions from the fitness industry and place them in the medical home where women can get customized support from a trusted medical professional.

Currently, I am in my fourth year medical student at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. I will graduate on May 19th, 2024, and embark on a journey to become a licensed primary care provider who specializes in obesity medicine.

My struggles with obesity have been marked by a cycle of short-term dieting followed by stress-induced weight regain. I never felt like my primary care providers had the time nor interest to help me conquer this problem. Instead, I was relegated to trying to care for this chronic medical condition on my own. This lack of comprehensive medical support has sparked my interest and commitment to the field of obesity medicine for my future patients.

While furthering my education and training in medicine, I aim to guide you through the aspects of treating obesity as a chronic disease, sharing what I learn in real time. I plan to use the tools and techniques I learn to fuel my own success, while at the same time creating customized tools for sustainable weight loss that speak to women who struggle with achieving sustainable weight loss as a result of emotional eating and yo-yo dieting. I'm here to be your trusted resource as I learn through my own anecdotal experiences and evidence-based medical training.

Welcome to a space where health understanding is a shared journey. Let's navigate the evidence, reshape our approach to obesity, and empower ourselves to make informed decisions for lasting lifestyle changes.

Together, we'll reduce the risk of chronic diseases tied to obesity and pave the way for sustainable well-being.

Your partner in health,

Betsy-Ann Myriam Assoumou
